Battleground of the Ants

The ants are encroaching on my new territory. Their numbers are growing in the backyard. Even more bothersome is how their floor patrols have brought in greater numbers of ants. I have struck back, leaving some of the floor looking like an ant graveyard, minus the burial. This is a fine excuse to show a few pictures of this battleground.

Given the title, this must be a low budget B-movie. As such, there is no HDTV, but there is a VCR and an Atari 7800.

You have me in stitches! Especially with the garage fitting like Spandex! Very well written. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Regarding this post, we first battled ants with bifenthrin (Ortho Home Defense Max) at the recommendation of our termite inspection company and met with some success, but I am not keen on touring the crawl space quarterly, and we had problems with ants nesting in the house insulation, so spraying the perimeter didn’t help much. Since then, we have had good success having that pest control make quarterly visits and additional visits if needed. We pay by the quarter.

We have had some trouble with carpenter ants, and I’d say having them come quarterly is worth the peace of mind just for that. The carpenter ants eat wood much like termites.

I’ve been using the same Ortho product. Since it just kills on contact, it has been great at killing ants that get into my house, but only after they are in. I applied another product outside Sunday evening that is supposed to look like food to ants, who then bring it back for all to eat. It claims that it can kill the queen ant within a week or two. I’ll be inspecting the back yard this upcoming weekend to see if it made any impact on their growing numbers.
